COVID-19 Response Grants
First Grant Distribution: The response fund was created on March 20. By April 1, $27,000 had been raised through the generous donations of Chatham County residents, businesses and local foundations. Applications were made available on April 2 and were due on April 9. On April 16, United Way of Chatham County approved the first round of grants and distributed $27,000 to address the most critical needs of Chatham’s residents, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Second Grant Distribution: The Response Fund goal for the next round of grants is $50,000. Applications will be made available on May 7 and will be due on May 14. Grant awards will be approved and distributed on May 21. 

Who can apply?
Applying agencies must be currently funded by United Way and/or Chatham County. These agencies have been thoroughly vetted through the annual review process component of both United Way and Chatham County’s annual funding process, which was conducted and completed last month.

Virus Relief Taskforce
Leaders from United Way and Chatham County have formed a Virus Relief Taskforce to review and approve funding applications from local nonprofits that are providing services to residents in need as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Taskforce is being co-chaired by Dina Reynolds, Executive Director of United Way of Chatham County and Hilary Pollen, Chatham County Community Partners Analyst. The taskforce is also comprised of members of the United Way of Chatham County Board of Directors and Chatham County’s Human Service Department Directors.

Areas of need:

  • Emergency Food 
  • Prescription Assistance
  • Rental Assistance and Shelter for the Homeless
  • Mental Health Services
  • Childcare Services

Reporting Requirements
Organizations that are selected to receive funding will be required to report outcomes. A reporting form will be provided with the award announcement. Reports will require:

  • Priority area addressed
  • Detailed accounting of how funds were utilized
  • Number of households assisted
  • Number of individuals assisted
