Step 3: Report to your community service project or donation drop-off on September 3rd to support our community!

The projects listed below are in-person volunteer opportunities. Click the name of the project to learn more.

Location: In-person, Indoors/Outdoors
This project will take place at different project sites in Chatham County.

Project Start Time: flexible

Volunteers Needed: 2-6

Estimated Number of Hours to Complete Project: 2-4

Volunteer Responsibilities: United Way is looking for a hobby or professional photographer to donate their time to capture photos of our community serving those in need! 

COVID-19 Safety Protocols: This is a solo volunteer project, but masks and social distancing will be expected when working near other volunteers and agency staff.

Specific Dress Requirements: Masks will be provided and REQUIRED when working near others.

Location: In-person, Indoors
Boys and Girls Club Wren Family Center in Siler City
126 S. 6th Avenue

Project Start Time: 11:00 a.m.

Volunteers Needed: 2-6

Estimated Number of Hours to Complete Project: 2-4

Volunteer Responsibilities: Assemble gym equipment for the new Teen Center weight room. Equipment to assemble: weight sets, racks, etc.

COVID-19 Safety Protocols: Temperature and health screening will be required upon arrival. Masks will be provided and REQUIRED for the duration of the project. Social distancing will be enforced. Please click here to download a copy of the Boys and Girls Club safety protocols.

Specific Dress Requirements: Masks will be provided and REQUIRED for the duration of the project. Closed toe shoes are highly recommended.

Location: In-person, Outdoor
Boys and Girls Club Wren Family Center in Siler City

Project Start Time: 10:00 a.m.

Volunteers Needed: 1-6

Estimated Number of Hours to Complete Project: 2-4

Volunteer Responsibilities: Installation of horseshoe pit. Some lifting, use of drill and hammering will be required.

COVID-19 Safety Protocols: This is an outside project, but social distancing guidelines will be followed. Temperature and health screening will be required upon arrival. Please click here to download a copy of the Boys and Girls Club safety protocols.

Specific Dress Requirements: Protective eye wear and closed toe shoes are highly recommended.

Location: In-person, Outdoor
Boys and Girls Club Wren Family Center in Siler City

Project Start Time: 1:00 p.m.

Volunteers Needed: 2-10

Estimated Number of Hours to Complete Project: 3-4

Volunteer Responsibilities: Cleaning and painting of outdoor spaces.

COVID-19 Safety Protocols: This is an outside project, but social distancing guidelines will be followed. Temperature and health screening will be required upon arrival. Please click here to download a copy of the Boys and Girls Club safety protocols.

Specific Dress Requirements: Masks are provided and REQUIRED.

Volunteers Needed: 10-20

Estimated Number of Hours to Complete Project: 8

Volunteer Responsibilities: Assemble fence around dumpster; repair and weed bocce courts; painting and repair of assistive equipment shed; sanding and repainting of cement bollards.

COVID-19 Safety Protocols: This is an outside project, but social distancing guidelines will be followed. Temperature and health screening will be required upon arrival. 

Specific Dress Requirements: Masks are provided and REQUIRED when working with others. Hat, protective eye wear and closed toe shoes are encouraged. 

Location: In-person, Outdoor
Pittsboro Senior Center

Volunteers Needed: 10-20

Estimated Number of Hours to Complete Project: 8

Volunteer Responsibilities: Weeding flower beds; planting of trees and shrubbery; and power washing exterior of building.

COVID-19 Safety Protocols: This is an outside project, but social distancing guidelines will be followed. Temperature and health screening will be required upon arrival.

Specific Dress Requirements: Masks are provided and REQUIRED when working with others. Hat, protective eye wear and closed toe shoes are encouraged.

Siler City Senior Center

Volunteers Needed: 10-20

Estimated Number of Hours to Complete Project: 8

Volunteer Responsibilities: Sanding and repainting main entrance ramp handrails; removing old landscaping; and painting library room and aerobics classroom (indoor).

COVID-19 Safety Protocols: This is an indoor/outside project, so social distancing guidelines will be followed. Temperature and health screening will be required upon arrival. 

Specific Dress Requirements: Masks are provided and REQUIRED when working with others. Hat, protective eye wear and closed toe shoes are encouraged. 

Location: In-person, Outdoor
CORA Food Pantry
40 Camp Drive
Pittsboro, NC 27312

Project Start Time: 8:00 a.m.

Volunteers Needed: 8-10

Estimated Number of Hours to Complete Project: 8-12 hours total, work can be completed in 4 hour shifts if necessary (refreshments will be provided, but feel free to bring your own.)

Volunteer Responsibilities: Grading 4-6 foot path between sidewalks; laying pavers and ensuring they are even and level;  and laying sand and pebbles around pavers so that carts can easily be pushed from one end of the building to the other without walking into the parking area or traffic.

COVID-19 Safety Protocols: This is an outside project in a space that is approximately 22 x 61 feet, but social distancing guidelines will be followed. Masks will be provided and REQUIRED when working with others.

Specific Dress Requirements: Masks will be provided and REQUIRED when working with others. Clothing to protect against the sun or insects, closed toe shoes, gloves and sunglasses or protective eye wear are highly recommended.

Volunteers Needed: Unlimited

Volunteer Responsibilities: Donation of comfort items to be provided to Council on Aging clients receiving meals and supplies. Donations can include: reading materials and activity books (crossword, word search, etc.); soft candies; hygiene products (toothpaste/brush, soap, hand sanitizer, lotion, comb, etc.); letters; playing cards; etc.

COVID-19 Safety Protocols: This is a no contact donation drop-off.

Location: Online

Volunteers Needed: Unlimited

Volunteer Responsibilities: United Way of Chatham County invites you to show teachers how valued they are in our community by submitting a “Card of Appreciation.” United Way will be delivering Thank You cards electronically to teachers in appreciation of their dedication to students during the COVID-19 pandemic. Location: Online

Volunteers Needed: Unlimited

Volunteer Responsibilities: United Way of Chatham County invites you to show health care workers how valued they are in our community by submitting a “Card of Appreciation.” United Way will be delivering Thank You cards electronically to health care workers at Chatham Hospital in appreciation of their commitment to the community during the COVID-19 pandemic. *Donations can be made at the drive-thru site under the shelter at Pugh Funeral home from 11:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m.

Volunteers Needed: Unlimited

Volunteer Responsibilities: Donation of non-perishable food items to benefit West Chatham Food Pantry.

COVID-19 Safety Protocols: This is a no contact donation drop-off.

*Donations can be made at Chatham Trades from 9:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m.

Volunteers Needed: Unlimited

Volunteer Responsibilities: Donation of school supplies to benefit Communities In Schools and Salvation Army. The most needed supplies include 3-ring binders, ear buds, flash drives, back packs, sanitizing wipes, composition notebooks, scissors, zipper pencil pouches, pencils, colored pencils, highlighters, post-it notes, etc.

COVID-19 Safety Protocols: This is a no contact donation drop-off.
